Haunted house owners want more space for business, neighbors upset

Augusta, GA (WFXG) - The haunted house on Wallie Drive, are sights and sounds out of your worst nightmare. But for residents nearby, that nightmare is a reality. Over the weekend the haunted house attraction Plantation Blood opened its gates, but the neighbors day they're the ones the plantation is haunting.

"To me this is a beautiful place," said Pamela Williams, who lives on Wallie Drive. "It's quiet, and this is how it is every day, until they start up."

Williams and other residents addressed their concerns face-to-face with the owners of Plantation Blood. They're looking to rezone their property for a larger parking lot.

"We want extra parking for our venue for 26 days out of the year," said Mark Jackson, one of the owners of the haunted attraction. "We do not want to construct anything. We need additional parking to help traffic if that's been an issue to the neighbors."

But neighbors say they don't want the business stretching its property lines at all.

"It's going to give them more room, to park more cars, to have more traffic to come in, and for us to have to deal with," Williams said.

But even if the haunted house owners reduce traffic, it's not the only problem neighbors are concerned about.

"Constant screaming, chainsaws, just loud cackling," said James Mashburn, he lives next to Plantation Blood.

Neighbors say noise can be heard blocks from the haunted house, and it's disturbance they're afraid they could soon be dealing with year-round. But Plantation Blood owners are putting those rumors to rest.

"One month a year we want to operate our haunted house. No truth to the 365 days a year," Jackson said.
