MIDDLETOWN, CT (WFSB) -

Middletown police arrested three men late Friday night after several arguments lead to two brothers damaging their neighbor's apartment with a metal baseball bat and a sword.

According to police, Carl Mayberry and Edward Zalewski got into a verbal argument with their neighbor Dionisio Lopez. Mayberry and Zalewski, who are brothers, confronted Lopez a couple of times throughout the night and even threatened him on one occasion.

For an unknown reason, Lopez was starting a small fire with twigs when Mayberry and Zalewski started harassing him, police said. However, this time Mayberry and Zalewski grabbed a metal baseball bat and a metal sword with a blade approximately 14" long.

They entered Lopez's rear apartment at 33 Warwick St. around 11 p.m., police said. The brothers were swinging their weapons and caused damage to the interior and exterior of Lopez's apartment, police said.

Lopez, who said he "feared for his life," photographed the damage, police added.

Police were called to the apartment just after 11 p.m. and arrested all three men.

Lopez later admitted to police that the fire department had warned him about illegal burning after starting several fires at his home. Officers found burnt wood and smoldering ashes near a clearly marked gas line valve, which is a risk to people in the area, police said.

Mayberry and Zalweski are charged with carrying a dangerous weapon, second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, threatening and second-degree reckless endangerment. Both are being held on a $250,000 bond and are scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Middletown on Oct. 4

Lopez was charged with reckless burning and disorderly conduct. He was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Middletown on Oct. 4.
