On the red carpet: DNC brings out the A-listers

Posted: Updated:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) -- Nothing brings out the red carpets -- and the celebrities--  like the Democratic National Convention.

Night two of the DNC and celebs could be spotted all over the Queen City.

WBTV's Brigida Mack was outside 5Church restaurant in uptown when she spotted actresses Jessica Alba, Elizabeth Banks and Alexis Bledel (of "Gilmore Girls" fame) leaving a private party. Zach Braff, the actor from "Scrubs" was also with them.

The next stop: an invitation-only event held by Voto Latino at the All-American Pub in Southend.

Actress-activist Rosario Dawson, the organization's founder walked the purple (not red) carpet and told WBTV the Latino vote is critical to the 2012 election.

"It's not just Latinos that have to be interested," she said. "It's an American issue and everyone needs to be involved. But Latinos are the fastest growing demographic and that is why we are focusing on them."

Dawson also told WBTV she loves Charlotte.

"I've been here before and it's great," she said. "I also have family in Myrtle Beach, SC so I'm familiar with the Carolinas.

America Ferrara, actress who you'll remember from the hit-show "Ugly Betty" also hit the purple carpet.

She told WBTV she has a responsibility to be involved.

"Whatever your platform is, you have to use it," she said. "I'm fortunate with my job and career choice that it gives me a large platform but I feel a duty as a citizen to participate, to engage others and to stand up for what I believe in."

The DNC also brought out A-listers like Common, Jermaine Dupri and actress Keshia Knight Pulliam.

All were spotted on the red carpet Tuesday night for the Musicians On Call Benefit sponsored by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) at the North Carolina Music Factory.

Common and Dupri performed at the invitation-only event inside the Fillmore Charlotte.

WBTV caught up with Common on the red carpet.

The rapper and actor told us why he was excited to be in town for the DNC.

"When we're talking about politics, it's a chance for us to not only show America how it's done but to also be an example for other countries," he said.

He also told WBTV he's a big fan of Charlotte.

"I love the Queen City," he said. "It's one of the best places here in the states. It's got that Southern feel but at the same time, it's also fresh and new."

Event organizers also told us they were expecting other celebs including Amber Riley, the actress from "Glee" and possibly even actress Eva Longoria.
