CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A mother is facing charges after police say her daughter was caught stealing food from Walmart because she was hungry.

Felicia Griffin, 35, is charged with one count of endangering children.

According to Hamilton County court records, Griffin's 14-year-old daughter was at the Walmart on Colerain Avenue when she was stopped by store security for stealing food. When a sheriff's deputy arrived, he noticed visible injuries to the girl's face and body. The girl told the deputy that her mom beat her with a stick and a belt on a regular basis and doesn't allow her to eat.

The girl was taken to Children's Hospital for treatment, where she was discovered to have several more injuries, including a chipped tooth, multiple scratches and a burn from what appears to be an iron.

She told investigators that she was stealing food because she was hungry and her mother only gave her food two to three times a week.

Griffin was interviewed by a Job and Family Services social worker and admitted that she did strike her daughter with a belt. She denied the allegations that she did not feed the girl and said many of the girl's injuries were self-inflicted.

Griffin was arrested on Thursday and taken to the Hamilton County Justice Center. Her bond was set at $5,000 Friday morning.
