AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -
During their Back to School Rally, New
Destiny Triumph Ministries handed school supplies to hundreds of children Saturday.
Shanarrian Lewis, a senior at Glenn
Hills High school named a few of the school supplies she'll use every day when
she starts school in a week and a half, "Paper, pencils, erasers, pencil
sharpeners."
But when the classroom doors open
some students won't be prepared.
"A lot of kids won't be prepared
the first day of school. Somebody might say what is
being prepared? They won't have a pencil, they won't have paper," said the
pastor of New Destiny Triumph Ministries, Angela Harden.
New Destiny Triumph Ministries was able
to give school supplies away for free Saturday because members of the church and the
community donated the items to the children.
"Some people aren't fortunate to
get these things so I believe this is a blessing for many families," Lewis,
said.
But the ministry's help with school
supplies doesn't end once the bags filled with school supplies run out. They
plan to follow up with the students throughout the school year so they can
focus on what's important.
"Later on in the year, somebody's
struggling, they need a book bag, they need school supplies, they need clothing,
guess what, you can call Pastor Harden. You can call New Destiny Triumph
Ministries because we're a church without walls," said Harden.
They are also a group of people
who are dedicated to helping the future of the community succeed.
"It's all of us coming together,
it's the village concept where we're coming together to help our community and
it works," Harden, said.
Harden tells Fox54 they plan to have the hold the rally
again next summer during the first week of August.
