Children's hospital patients get special delivery

Augusta, GA. (WFXG) - Claudia Crawford, 11, has been battling a virus doctors haven't been able to diagnose.

"My stomach hurts a little. I'm in pain, but…I'm OK," Claudia said.

Three weeks ago Claudia came in with walking pneumonia. She was treated with antibiotics, but last week, the virus came back. The Crawfords drove up from Waynesboro to check Claudia into the Children's Medical Center at GHS.

"It's been emotional. It's been tough," said Margaret Crawford, Claudia's mother.

But Thursday afternoon, Claudia was in for a treat. Members from the Georgia chapter of Quilts for Kids, Inc. traveled from Waycross to deliver the blankets made especially for patients at the children's hospital.

"When you deliver the quilts and you see actually where they go, then it has more meaning to it," said Cheryl Sloan, chapter leader for Quilts for Kids, Inc., Georgia chapter.

More than 100 blankets were donated; Claudia being the first to receive hers.

"I thought I was like, made my world, I don't know," Claudia said. "That was really surprising. I love the quilt."

"It's special. I mean that's a quilt that I'm not going to let her drag through the mud probably because it's so special," Crawford said. "You know, she really appreciates things like that."

Claudia hopes to finish treatment soon so she can enjoy the rest of the hot summer. But until she leaves the hospital, she'll stay warm enough with a gift she'll never forget.
