PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Two women who claim they were harassed by Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies told their stories in federal court Thursday.

A pregnant woman and a mother driving with Boy Scouts both claim they were stopped and harassed by sheriff's deputies only because they're Hispanic.

At issue is whether Sheriff Joe Arpaio's controversial crime suppression sweeps unfairly target people who look Hispanic, a charge Arpaio denies.

After Thursday's testimony, both sides said they're confident they have a solid case.

"We think it's going very well and we believe that at the end of that, justice will be achieved and the judge, we hope will stop the racial profiling that's going on here in Maricopa County," the plaintiff's attorney, Andrew Byrne said.

"It was a very good day for the defense, I think Sheriff Arpaio and MCSO are feeling more and more confident each day as the evidence gets into the court, and we have a great deal of confidence in Judge Snow's ability," Arpaio's attorney, Tom Liddy said.

The trial is on recess through the weekend and resumes on Tuesday.
