AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

A young musician plays his guitar as he remembers the life of a fallen hero.

"I saw the impact that it had on the community," says 22-year-old musician Dallas Duff.

The impact the death of Richmond County Sheriff's Deputy J.D. Paugh shot down while checking on a stopped car in October.

Using J.D. as inspiration Duff wrote 'Prayer for a Fallen Hero' in just one day.

"I mean anytime any officer is killed it's a tragedy," Duff says.

A tragedy the officer's family members continue to cope with, with a great amount of community support.

"They've done everything, unbelievable," says J.D.'s mother Anita Paugh.

When Anita first heard Duff's song she says she was brought to tears.

"Oh I heard it a few weeks ago and my reaction was tears, but love it," says Anita.

For Duff a song for a fallen hero and for everyone impacted by J.D.'s death is what the music is all about.

"It's something a little different, especially when it involves your own community. You know something that you can create a positive influence through and that other people can rally around," says Duff.

Rallying around the music and J.D.'s loved ones is how Duff says the public is reacting to his song.

"I got pulled over for speeding and the cop came up to me and he had already heard the song and he recognized me and he didn't write me a ticket," says Duff.

Duff's music helping a community and a family as they heal.

"The pictures the song," says Anita, "How proud I am and how glad I am that somebody did something like this," says Anita.
