Two students have been dubbed heroes for their actions during the Chardon High School shootings.

Travis Carver and David Marks were in Chardon's cafeteria waiting for the bus to the Auburn Career Center when the shooting started. "At first, I was seeking cover… as soon as everyone else had calmed down a little, I clicked into training mode" said Carver.

Both young men are in the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) program at Auburn and were honored with the school's Courage Under Fire award Wednesday, June 6. Moments after the shooting started, the two teens sprang into action, providing first aid to wounded students.

One of the students Travis Carver was helped was Joyce Rickers, who survived the shooting and walked across the graduation stage last weekend. "What happened is horrible, but it makes me feel good that I helped and did what I could do to make the situation better" said David Marks.

Geauga County Sheriff Chief Deputy, Scott Hildenbrand was one of the first people Chardon's High School cafeteria. He says what the two teens did was truly extraordinary. "I was so proud that they were able to act the way they were…to help save lives and to stay calm during it… because it was a very hectic situation."
