A Phoenix police officer was involved in a shooting Tuesday morning.
Two people are dead in what seems to be a love triangle. It started Tuesday morning when Dan Ruble called police, telling them he was being stalked.
Police say he used the GPS tracking device on his cell phone. Even though he wasn't home, he was able to see that his girlfriend's estranged husband, Steven Brandt, was in his driveway.
Family members also say Ruble got a phone call from his girlfriend, warning him that Brandt left their home with a gun and planned to confront him.
Ruble had just gotten off work and decided instead of going home he would go to a family member's house and wait for police to meet him there.
Family members said that Ruble told police Brandt was armed. However, the officer insisted that he accompany her to his home. The officer found Brandt in the driveway of Ruble's home and asked him to get out of the car.
"While the officer is talking to him, the victim is proceeding to go walk into his home. As he walked by, the suspect turned his back to our officer, pulled a weapon that he produced under his shirt that was concealed and began to fire," said Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump.
The 17-year veteran pulled her gun and shot Brandt. Investigators said both men died in the front yard.
"People look out for each other and say hello," said neighbor Rick Brandt. "I saw the police cars and then I saw the police with the guns and I saw the stance."
But several questions remain. The victim's family says police were told Brandt was armed and waiting, so why would the officer bring Ruble with her? CBS 5 News also obtained an internal police memo saying the officer told Rubel to go inside while she questioned Brandt, and that's when Brandt opened fire.
Police have not released the name of the officer involved. Investigators confirmed this is the first time she's ever been involved in a shooting.
