Border group honoring singer with award

TUCSON, AZ (AP) -

Singer Linda Ronstadt is set to receive an award for her defense of immigrant rights, opposing SB 1070 as well as criticism of the actions of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

The Tucson group BorderLinks will honor Ronstadt Sunday in Sahuarita.

BorderLinks Executive Director Fernanda Morillon tells the Arizona Daily Star Ronstadt is a woman from the borderlands who has spoken out courageously in support of human rights.

BorderLinks is described by its organizers as a binational, nonprofit organization based in both Tucson and Nogales, Mexico, marking its 25th anniversary.
