after blood samples taken from the scene matched his DNA.
Captain Michael Nunn, spokesperson for the Florence County
Sheriff's Office, said that 44-year-old Bruce Mariah Beauford of Effingham was
arrested by investigators on Tuesday and charges with second degree burglary.
Nunn said that charge stemmed from an incident that occurred
on May 24, 2010 on South Irby Street in Florence. Beauford allegedly broke into
a business at that location during the night and stole several items.
Blood samples collected at the scene by the Florence county
Sheriff's Office Forensics Unit were determined to be positive match to
Beauford after they were submitted to SLED for analysis.
"This is yet another example of our Deputies, Investigators
and Forensics Units working together to solve crime," Sheriff Kenney Boone
stated. "With the use of SLED's CODIS System, we were able to link evidence
left at the crime scene to the suspect."
Nunn added that Beauford's burglary charges is a felony,
carrying a sentence of up to 15 years in prison. Beauford remains in custody
Wednesday at the Florence County Detention Center on a $15,000 surety bond.
Under South Carolina law, Burglary, Second Degree is a
felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
At the time of this Press Release, Beauford was being held at the Florence
County Detention Center on a $15,000.00 surety bond.
