HEPHZIBAH, GA (WFXG) -
The Historic First Ebenezer Baptist Church is celebrating Black History Month by bringing the Hephzibah community together.
"Oh it's great, I'm always reminded of the people who sacrificed in the physical realm to be able to do the things that we have," says Paster Moses D. Anderson.
Pastor Anderson has spent the last 12 years heading the church and says this month is especially meaningful for the young members of the congregation.
"Our youth do it. It gives them a chance to study and look and remember because knowing who we are is becoming a lost art around the world," says Pastor Anderson.
First Ebenezer is looking back at history, a history that it has lived through, at almost 200 years old.
"We have members that are almost 90- years- old, and some of them have history," says the Pastor.
The youth group at the church organized the program which included several performances and a question and answer round about influential black leaders.
"I think it's a good thing for the kids to learn about black history so they will know where they come from," says Denise Myers says the youth advisor.
The children who came to the service say that learning about the past will help them work harder for the future.
"It can inspire us to do more things and be bigger," says 12-year-old Selena Castro.
Celebrating history, something members new and old, can share in together.
"Oh yes I'm proud of this little church, I've been a member of this little church ever since 1931," says Tessie Tillman.
