Tee Center marketing plan unveiled

Posted: Updated:

The Augusta Convention and Visitors Bureau launched a pre-opening marketing plan for the multi-million dollar Tee Center.

The Augusta Trade, Exhibit and Event Center is designed to add space for trade shows and national and state conventions. The goal of the marketing plan is to raise awareness to regional meeting planners and Augusta residents, who could bring their meetings or events to the space, raking in big bucks for Augusta's economy.

"The objective is to get people in from outside the community," said Barry White, President and CEO of the Augusta Convention and Visitors Bureau. "They come in, they visit, they go home. While they're here, they're spending money. We estimate, based on some research that we've gotten 266 dollars a day spent by convention delegates in Augusta. So they're supporting our local businesses, and they're contributing to our tax base."

The plan is funded through a $1 fee collected by hotels. The Tee Center is scheduled to open up by December.
