LAS VEGAS (RNN) - Television personality and businessman Donald Trump threw his support behind former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney on Thursday in his bid to go toe to toe with President Barack Obama in November.

"Mitt is tough, he's smart, he's sharp, he's not going to allow bad things to continue to happen to this country we all love," Trump said. "Gov. Romney, go out and get 'em."

The endorsement comes two days before the Nevada caucuses.

Joking that he's done well for himself in business, but perhaps not as well as Trump, Romney said he has the experience to get the economy moving.

"We have a president who may be a nice guy but he's in way over his head. He does not understand what it takes to keep America working and I do," Romney said.

"I will use all of my energy to get America working again, to help the people have rising incomes, good jobs and homes that are worth something again."

Trump hinted at his own run for the office before announcing May 16, 2011 that he would not run for president.

"This decision does not come easily or without regret, especially when my potential candidacy continues to be validated by ranking at the top of the Republican contenders in polls across the country," Trump said in a news release announcing his decision.

After being touted by many as the inevitable GOP nominee, Romney's campaign suffered a set back in the South Carolina primary, coming in second to former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, but has picked up steam after a Tuesday win in Florida.
