Clearwater, SC (WFXG) -
A fire continues to smolder hours after it started. Multiple crews were called to the scene of a massive fire at the Old Clearwater Finishing Plant on Belvedere-Clearwater Road Tuesday night.
FOX54 was the first news crew on the scene. Investigators were called out to the plant just before 9pm Tuesday. Belvedere Road was closed off while crews worked to gain control of the fire.
Because the plant was abandoned and the fire was so big, crews will let the fire burn and monitor it until it's out.
The plant was in the process of being torn down. Crews tell FOX54 the fire on the second floor became too much for fire crews and broke through the roof. Two ladders were set up.
Witnesses on the scene say they saw someone running from the fire. But, there is no word of any injuries at this time.
Bath, Clearwater, Belvedere, Langley, Beech Island, North Augusta and Aiken County all responded to the fire.
No word yet on how the fire started. FOX54 is on the scene and will pass along more information as we get it here at WFXG.com and on our WFXG Augusta FOX54 Facebook page.
