Web companies unite to stop "phishing"

Google, AOL, Yahoo and other websites are joining forces to put a stop to "phishing."

According to Eric Sharpe, phishing is  when "You see an email that you believe comes directly from

the organization, for example, your bank might send you an email and

it says something like ok there's an issue with your account."

It may sound harmless, but then you're asked to clink a link which will redirect you to another website. That website will probably look safe, but then it most likely will require a social security number, date of birth and all the other components someone needs to steal your identity.

The coalition of websites, better known as DMARC, is trying to blacklist certain e-mail providers that send those phony e-mails.  DMARC also wants to enforce e-mail standards that would make it difficult for those hackers to even operate.
