Dozens of soldiers are back in the U.S. after serving in Afghanistan and Kuwait. A ceremony was held on Thursday at Fort Gordon to celebrate the return of members of the 297 Military Intelligence Battalion.
"I'm just glad to be home," says Specialist Conn Cowley as he holds his baby boy.
Getting back to the U.S. was particularly meaningful for Spc. Cowley who got to meet his son for the first time when he returned from overseas.
"He jumped in my arms when they got off the plane and ever since then he just grabs onto me all the time," says Cowley.
The soldier, who watched the birth of his son on Skype only a few weeks after he was deployed, can't help but smile when talking about the immediate bond him and his baby share.
"I felt blessed it was like a miracle come true," says Cowley.
The Cowley's just like the dozens of other men and women at the ceremony, are happy to be together again.
"I just want to take my leave and be with my family right now, that's all I'm thinking about right now," says the soldier as he holds his young son.
