More and more travelers are finding it easier to fly out of Augusta Regional Airport. And the convenience seems to be leading to an influx in passengers. And now more room is needed to accommodate the new passengers.
"We have an additional 600 spaces being constructed in our short term parking lot," said Lauren Smith, the communications manager at the airport. "And that's due the increase number of passengers that we have."
In 2011 AGS served more than 541 thousand flyers. That's a nine percent increase, or an extra 45 thousand passengers since 2010. Officials are happy with the changes and are even happier to do it for their customers.
"We really appreciate everyone's patronage and their continued support of their local airport," Smith said. "And we hope to see the success in 2012."
That success is in sight. In just a few more months, the construction will be complete. And Augusta Regional passengers will have one more reason to fly out of the garden city.
