Aiken businesses raise money for Richardson family

Posted: Updated:

As the Aiken community mourns the loss of Master Public Safety Officer Scotty Richardson, local businesses are pitching in for his family.

When we found out it was Scotty, we knew that he had three little kids, and he was married and we just wanted to do something we feel like would help the family.

Allison and Brentni started with 15 money jars as a fundraiser for the Richardson family. A week later over 50 Scotty Richardson jars sit by cash registers in shops downtown and small businesses around the county. But these jars aren't the only ones collecting dollars and dimes. Restaurants are putting into the pot too.

We generally stay booked for pancake breakfast about six months in advanced. And just by chance we did not have one scheduled for Saturday morning, the 7th.

Fatz Café is organizing a fundraiser for the Richardsons; an idea pitched by one of their employees who knew Scotty personally.

Scotty played football with my oldest son, and I felt that we needed to do something. I needed to do something.

We thought it was a perfect opportunity to step in, and to give something back to those who serve everyone else.

These dollars and coins: just small tokens of their appreciation for their fallen hero.

To date the Scotty jars have collected $3,000 all going toward the Edward Scott Richardson Children's fund. For more information to donate, or to set up a jar in a store call (803) 645-2424 or (803) 645-8803.

Fatz Cafe's pancake breakfast will be Saturday, Jan. 7, from 8 to 10 a.m. at the restaurant, 996 Pine Log Road. Tickets are $7 and are available now in advance. Tickets may also be purchased at the door on the day of the event.
