Lauren Powell grew up in the Lowcountry of South Carolina in the small town of Hemingway between Myrtle Beach and Charleston. She was in the first ever graduating class of Carvers Bay High School.
Lauren grew up a diehard South Carolina Gamecock fan, attending her first football game at the tender age of 4 months old! So, when it came time to pick a college, her one and only choice was the University of South Carolina.
As the first in her family to attend college, the adventure was a family affair and a learning experience! Lauren began her college career as a Pre-Med, Biology major with the dream of becoming a dermatologist. But after 3 years of studying all the math and science she could stand, her plans for the future changed and she realized her true love for writing! That's when she applied to the University of South Carolina Journalism School.
After 5 years of football games, sorority events with her Kappa Kappa Gamma sisters and studying, Lauren graduated in December 2006 and immediately was offered a job at WJBF News Channel 6 in Augusta where she worked nights and weekends and eventually took off as producer of the Fox54 News at 10 newscast.
After more than 2 years in Augusta, Lauren took a job in Savannah at WTOC-TV, where she continued to grow as a producer. After 2 years in Savannah, FOX54 News at 10, a Raycom News partner with WTOC-TV, decided to start their own independent newscast. Lauren was offered the Executive Producer position with the new project and jumped at the opportunity and is back in Augusta!
In her free time, you'll find Lauren tailgating for her Gamecocks, spending time with her friends downtown, snapping pictures and enjoying the music of local bands, including her favorite, False Flag, or enjoying a nice walk with her dog Lola!
