PERRYVILLE, MO (KFVS) - Hundreds of new jobs will be headed to Perryville.
Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon stopped in Perryville Friday to make the announcement at the Perryville Municipal Airport.
The jobs will be for the Sabreliner Corporation, an aircraft maintenance and overhaul corporation, to build a new hangar at the airport.
"We've gotten to a point where the volume of our business had grown so much our capacity would not support it," said Sabreliner President & CEO Patrick Finneran. "We had to turn away work last year because we didn't have the ability to strip and paint aircraft."
It's expected to create about 400 new jobs over a period of time, most of those Finneran says will be at the Perryville location where the new hangar will be built.
He says the job opportunities include those with an engineering background, to those with finance backgrounds, plus aircraft mechanic and aircraft painter jobs.
He says they'll be high paying jobs. He estimates the union wages are about $21 to $23 an hour.
The state of Missouri awarded more than $5 million in potential economic incentives that will help Sabreliner enlarge its paint and strip operations.
"I am proud that Sabreliner's significant expansion was made possible by the state of Missouri's strategic package of economic incentives," said Governor Jay Nixon said. "Those incentives are providing a measurable return on investment to taxpayers in terms of hundreds of new jobs created and strong local investment."
Construction of the new hangar is set to begin the Tuesday after Labor Day.
The project could be complete in nine to 11 months, weather permitting.
