Public Safety Committee working on new safety SOP after Melquan Robinson’s death

AUGUSTA, GA. (WFXG) - Richmond County commissioners say they’re working to make the city and facilities safer.

Putting together a new safety policy standard operation procedure.

Commissioners say risk management’s current safety policy is inadequate.

They’re focusing on recreational facilities and other places where there’s a high concentration of people and dangerous things.

“Getting more certified safety officers, we’re talking about putting in a process where we can declare it’s an emergency, its immediate, it’s urgent..whether we need to shut down a place of operation," said District 4 Commissioner Sammie Sias.

Commissioners will have the beginning of a draft proposal at their next subcommittee meeting in May.
