UPDATE: 56-year-old man on bicycle hit and killed by vehicle in Aiken

AIKEN, SOUTH CAROLINA (WFXG) - The Aiken County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the man who was hit and killed while riding a bicycle on York Street in Aiken Monday evening.

56-year-old James Hicks of Aiken was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by two vehicles at approximately 8:35 p.m. Monday in the one thousand block of York Street.

Mr. Hicks was riding his bicycle and attempting to cross York Street when he was struck by a south bound vehicle. Mr. Hicks was thrown into the north bound lane of York St. and was struck by a north bound vehicle and became trapped underneath that vehicle. Hicks died of blunt force injuries, toxicology analysis are pending.

The Aiken Department of Public Safety is continuing the investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY: A person riding a bicycle was hit and killed by a vehicle in Aiken. According to the Aiken Department of Public Safety, it happened at 8:31 p.m. near the intersection of York Street and Rutland Drive near CVS.

The bicyclist was traveling south on York Street, according to ADPS. The vehicle that hit the bicyclist remained on the scene.

At this time the crash is under investigation.
