Suspicious death at Martinez apartment complex

MARTINEZ, GA (WFXG) - The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office tells FOX 54 that 46-year-old Larry Perry has been arrested and charged with murder in the suspicious death of 60-year-old Geraldine Sharp.

Sheriff’s deputies said Sharp was found Thursday afternoon dead in her living room with a stab wound to her chest.

No bond has been set for Perry.

UPDATE: Deputies in Columbia County investigated Thursday after 60-year-old Geraldine Sharp was found dead in her apartment today.

Residents reacted when they found out and as the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office tried to piece together what happened to her.

Lucy Flowers, a resident at the Shenandoah Ridge Apartments in Martinez, said: “Nauseous, scared, petrified, I didn’t know what to think.”

“I pulled up from work and I was approached by an officer letting me know that someone had passed away and if I knew anything or saw anything suspicious,” added Flowers.

Neighbors say they are very surprised this happened in their community.

Brian Whitfield, another resident at the Shenandoah Ridge Apartments, said: “I didn’t know their names but I said hey to them every morning they seemed like nice people. I would never think something like this would happen.”

With limited information on just what happened to Sharp, one resident says she’s uneasy.

“Just really watching where I live and to know exactly who is around me,” said Flowers.

No details are being released on how Sharp died or if deputies are looking for a suspect.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious death at an apartment complex in Martinez.

According to Maj. Steve Morris, 60-year-old Geraldine Sharp’s body was found at Shenandoah Ridge Apartments, off Old Petersburg Rd. Information is limited at this time, but sheriff’s office is treating the death as suspicious.

This is an ongoing investigation.
