AIKEN COUNTY, SC (WFXG) - Wreaths were laid on confederate soldier’s grave-sights at the Bethany Cemetery in Aiken on December 15. This is the first time confederate veterans have been recognized with Wreaths Across America.
54 wreaths were placed after a small ceremony. Some veterans and community members came dressed in confederate uniforms and dresses from that time period. People spoke on the history surrounding the confederacy, and then there was a small walk around the grounds to place the wreaths.
“They’re all veterans of the United States. They’re all part of our heritage, they’re all part of our history, and they really need to be remembered, just like all other veterans in the United States,” says Blake Moore, Fifth Brigade Commander.
