Traffic stop in Taliaferro County leads deputies to hundreds of pounds of weed

TALIAFERRO COUNTY (WFXG) - Friday night deputies from the Taliaferro Sheriff’s office found over 300 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop. Deputies say they stopped the gray and black in color Mercedes-Benz RV for several traffic violations.

While talking with the driver the deputy saw signs of criminal activity which led to the R-V being searched. The deputy asked the driver if there were any narcotics in the car and the driver responded there was 3 to 5 grams of personal use marijuana.

The deputy noticed a raised floor by the bed, after removing the bed they found a compartment which is where they located 304.5 pounds of marijuana. The driver and passenger who were traveling from California to South Carolina. They are being held in Wilkes County Jail and are waiting for their first appearance with the Magistrate Judge.

The two are being held on multiple felony charges including: trafficking marijuana, possession of an aftermarket compartment to transport illegal narcotics, and several traffic charges.
