Suspect in Blue Ridge Dr. hit-and-run arrested

COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA (WFXG) - A man has been arrested after investigators say he clipped an 11-year-old boy with his car Friday afternoon.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the boy was walking on the shoulder of Blue Ridge Dr. near Lakeside Middle School when he was hit by the side mirror of a red older model four-door SUV traveling the same direction. The boy suffered lacerations to the back of his head and a broken foot. The boy’s mother says her son was walking from from Lakeside Middle when he was struck.

My son had to get 11 stitches and 7 staples in the back of his head and he also has a broken foot. please help us get justice for our son.

The vehicle’s side mirror broke off from the impact and using that piece of evidence, along with eyewitness testimony, investigators were able to track down and arrest the suspect: 37-year-old Gary Vaughn Prescott, Jr. He was arrested Monday morning.
