Hurricane Michael knocks down trees, power in Aiken County

AUGUSTA, GA. (WFXG) - The sound of chainsaws is permeating through this intersection of Valley Road and Edisto Avenue right off Richland Avenue in Aiken County, South Carolina.

That’s because around 2 a.m. a tree fell on top of a power line. That tree fell down because of winds from Hurricane Michael that were between 35 and 40 miles an hour, according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

They’ve been here since 6 a.m. working to remove that tree and also remove a piece of power pole that’s also on top of the power line. About 20 to 30 homes were impacted and crews can expect to continue cleaning up this mess throughout the duration of the day.

I’m also told that about 10 other areas in the county look just like this after trees toppled on top of power lines so crews expect to be working on those sites until at least tomorrow.
