AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - It’s Fire Prevention Week, and the Augusta Fire Department is sharing tips all week on fire safety.
On Monday, the department showed us how to properly put out a kitchen fire. Captain Bradley Morgan says you should always have a fire extinguisher near the exit door and use it with your back turned to the door. That way, you have a clear exit to leave after you put out the fire
Michael Meyers with the department says, surprisingly, many people don’t have a fire extinguisher in their homes. “Make sure you go out and purchase a fire extinguisher that you can have in the home. Put it near an exit door that way you know where it is and don’t have to look for it. Do everything you can to have it mounted on the wall.”
Here’s another good tip: closing all doors at night in your home. That can prevent a potential fire from spreading.
