AUGUSTA (WFXG) - Tuesday, State Representative Brian Prince made a stop at Belair K-8 to read to pre-k students in honor of Georgia Pre-K Week. This is the eighth year of the program and the goal is to raise awareness for the importance of quality early childhood education.
The program started with serving 750 students and has now grown to around 81,000 children. Prince says it is important to start kids reading young because everything they will need to know for the rest of their lives starts with reading.
“It’s focus is on catching kids at an early age, trying to develop those reading skills so by the time they get to third, fifth grade and by high school, they have the reading comprehension to understand things and the new technology and everything going on, they have to read to understand that.”
Prince will also be reading on October 3rd at Sue Reynolds Elementary from 9am to 10am.
